Well, I've always wanted to start a blog, but up until now, figured I rarely have anything interesting to say. All that changed yesterday.
Actually, scratch that, it started a few years ago, but has just now came to a head. Back in 2004 I went to the Dr, for if I recall correctly a gall bladder attack. The details aren't important now, but it started with me going to the Dr for a pain. After the initial attack, I seem to recall there was a second attack that ended up sending me to the emergency room. The attack actually resolved itself before we got the ER, with one very PAINFUL cramp, a funny SQUIRT feeling, and then a total absence of pain.
Two days after this, I got a CT scan. The results came back: Mass and Inflammation at the distal end of the small colon. At the time my Primary Care Physician suggested I get a Colonoscopy. I also got a test to check the function of the gall bladder and it came back at 35%. The surgeon said "Needs to come out" at the time, and I said "Thanks but no Thanks". I'm a person who believes if it isn't broke, don't fix it, and that if all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Yes, I did have a gall bladder attack, but it only happened twice, and I KNOW it was triggered by eating high fat meals. So I figured I'd try to eat better. And I did, for a while. And at 37, I was in No mood to get a Colonoscopy, after all, those hurt right?
Fast forward 6 years. Divorced for the second time, I've been dating an amazing woman for almost 2 years. She's an LPN student, half way thru her training. She convinced me to join the YMCA back in August of 2010 and I started working out, dropping about 20+ lbs. A couple of weeks ago, as I was sitting at my desk at work, I got a sharp pain in the family jewels..... Short, stabbing pain, but not dehabilitating. I've had Gout attacks in the past, that were FAR worse. But of course, because of the location, I decided to go to my primary care physician. She didn't see any problems, but asked to get a CT scan. Well the CT came back and everything looked ok, but the same mass and inflammation..... Sigh, well looks like it's Colonoscopy time.
My primary care Dr send the referral over and I had a consultation with the GI Doc. His first comment was "What are you doing here? You don't look sick". Funny thing Doc, I don't FEEL sick either. Now let me explain. I'm 5'11'' and about 220lbs. I'm overweight, but I also am not way out of shape. I carry most of my weight around my center(middle age paunch). After I explained to him the CT results and he did the old listen and poke. There's an area on my belly that is hard, and when he pushes, yea, it's sore. Not bad, but sore. This spot happens to correspond to the same location as the CT. After he reads my chart he agrees that a 'scope is good idea. We set the appt for 1.5 weeks.
